NC Scholastic Classic returning Friday, Feb. 11

The North Carolina Scholastic Classic will bring the best in high school basketball to the Greensboro Coliseum Complex’s Special Events Center for a four-game spectacular on Friday, Feb. 11.

Tickets are on sale now at Ticketmaster.com and the Greensboro Coliseum box office. General admission seating is $30 (for all four games).

Want to get an early look at the future collegiate and professional basketball stars of tomorrow? The NC Scholastic Classic will once again bring the best in prep hoops action to Greensboro with over 20 NCAA Division I prospects taking the court led by Vertical Academy’s combo guard Mikey Williams, one of the top-ranked pro prospects in the country among juniors. Williams is currently averaging 28 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists and has a scholarship offer from the University of Kansas.

The Scholastic Classic will open with Lake Norman - which boasts five Division I prospects playing for coach Chris Ewell – taking on a loaded Word of God team featuring Brandon Gardner (Top 40 Senior in country), Freddie Dilione (Top 5 player in North Carolina) and Ja’Kwon Moore (Top 5 national player in junior class).

The 4:15 tilt will feature High Point Wesleyan taking on traditional powerhouse Greensboro Day which is ranked nationally in the top 20 with a win over Oak Hill Academy (VA) and led by top players Jaydon Young and Mike Zanoni.

At 6 p.m., Moravian Academy, loaded with top 5 freshman guard Eli Ellis and forwards Maar Wol and Cam Kearney, will face off against Combine Academy which is coached by former NBAer Jeff McGinnis and has all Division I prospects in its seven-man rotation.

The four-game finale will pit Williams and Vertical Academy versus a deep Burlington team (24-7 and the state 2A champions last year) led by  6-foot-8 Avion Pinner, 6-foot-4 Kheni Briggs, 6-foot-4 Kobe George, 6-foot-2 Zion Walker and 6-foot-1 Shane Patterson.

In its first year (2003), the North Carolina Scholastic Classic brought future NBA superstar LeBron James to the Triad, drawing a crowd of 16,220 and setting a North Carolina state record for a high school basketball game. Other future pro talent that has appeared in the Scholastic Classic in Greensboro include Brooklyn Nets superstar Kevin Durant and Chicago Bulls guard Coby White.
