For the 24th time in the last 25 years, the 2024 Ally ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament will be held March 6-10 at Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina, announced by the league office on Tuesday.
“We take great pride in continuing the tradition of having our Ally ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament in Greensboro,” said ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips, Ph.D. “Our student-athletes have an incredible experience in Greensboro every year and this year will be no different. I’m looking forward to crowning another champion in March.”
The 22,000-seat Greensboro Coliseum began hosting the Ally ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament in 2000 and has been the host for the annual event each year excluding 2017. Last season, more than 62,000 fans attended the tournament, the highest attended tournament since 2010.
“The Greensboro Coliseum is excited to host the ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament for the 24th time, the most of any venue,” said Greensboro Coliseum Complex managing director Matt Brown. “We look forward to once again providing a fantastic experience for the student-athletes, coaches, officials and fans while partnering with the ACC to produce the best women’s basketball tournament in the country.”
In the last nine seasons, excluding 2020 when the NCAA Tournament was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the champion of the Ally ACC Tournament has earned a No. 1 seed in March Madness and advanced to the National Championship game three times. Last season, Virginia Tech, which claimed its first-ever ACC title, earned a spot in the Final Four for the first time in program history, becoming the ninth different program to represent the ACC in the Women’s Final Four.
A nation-best eight ACC teams were selected to compete in the 2023 NCAA Tournament. It marked the fifth consecutive NCAA Tournament in which eight ACC teams were selected, which ties the league record and is the most among all conferences in that span.
