N.C. Scholastic Classic returning Saturday, Jan. 12

The Greensboro Coliseum Complex’s Fieldhouse will host the North Carolina Scholastic Classic on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019 beginning at 2 p.m.

Want to get an early look at the future collegiate and professional basketball stars of tomorrow? The N.C. Scholastic Classic will once again bring the best in prep hoops action to Greensboro for a three-game hoops extravaganza featuring some of the most exciting high school players in North Carolina.

Top players in this year’s Classic include Walkertown junior point guard Jalen Cone, a consensus 4-star recruit and top 100 player nationally, Greensboro Day sophomore shooting guard Carson McCorkle (consensus top-100 recruit in his class; committed to Virginia), Greensboro Day sophomore point guard Camren Hayes (one of the top five players in the state in his class and has offers from N.C. State, Tennessee and Wake Forest) and Trinity Christian forward Greg Gannt, a consensus 4-star recruit who signed with Providence.

In its first year (2003), the North Carolina Scholastic Classic brought future NBA superstar LeBron James to the Triad, drawing a crowd of 16,220 and setting a North Carolina state record for a high school basketball game. Other future pro talent that has appeared in the Scholastic Classic in Greensboro include Golden State Warriors superstar Kevin Durant and former NBA players Josh Smith, Brandon Jennings and Ty Lawson.
