The Greensboro Coliseum Complex’s Fieldhouse will host the North Carolina Scholastic Classic on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018 at 4 p.m.
Want to get an early look at the future collegiate and professional basketball stars of tomorrow? The N.C. Scholastic Classic will once again bring the best in prep hoops action to Greensboro for a three-game hoops extravaganza featuring some of the most exciting high school players in North Carolina.
Top players at this year’s Classic will include Trinity Christian juniors Joey Baker and Greg Gantt, UNC commit Coby White of Greenfield and Wake Forest commit Jaylen Hoard.
Baker, a 6-7, 190-pound small forward was heavily recruited by several ACC schools before committing to Duke in late October. A 6-8 forward, Gantt is widely considered a Top 10 recruit in the state of North Carolina for 2019. A high-scoring 6-4 combo guard, White committed to the Tar Heels in February. According to Scout.com, Hoard is regarded as the No. 25 overall prospect and the No. 8 small forward in the 2018 recruiting class.
In its first year (2003), the North Carolina Scholastic Classic brought future NBA superstar LeBron James to the Triad, drawing a crowd of 16,220, a North Carolina state record for a high school basketball game. Other future pro talent that has appeared in the Scholastic Classic in Greensboro include Golden State Warriors’ superstar Kevin Durant, New Orleans Pelicans forward Josh Smith and former NBA players Brandon Jennings and Ty Lawson.
