While 2011 may sound far away, preparations for the U.S. Figure Skating Championships, to be held January 22-30 at the Greensboro Coliseum, are in full swing.
On Tuesday, officials from United States Figure Skating and NBC Television, which will broadcast the event, came to Greensboro to continue planning for the nation's most prestigious figure skating event. To see footage and interviews from their visit, checkout stories on News 14 and WFMY.
The 2011 edition of the event, held annually since 1914, will mark the first time the U.S. Championships have taken place in North Carolina. Over the course of a week, 12 national champions will be crowned in ladies, men's, pairs and ice dancing on the senior, junior and novice levels. The nine-day event is expected to attract approximately 1,500 figure skaters, coaches and officials and bring an estimated economic impact of more than $26 million to this area.
