The 2011 U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Greensboro, N.C., will start one year from today!
To help commemorate the occasion, North Carolina 2011, the local organizing committee for the championships, has launched a new Countdown Clock on the homepage of the event’s official website, www.NorthCarolina2011.com.
The 2011 U.S. Championships will be held Jan. 22-30, 2011, at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex in Greensboro, N.C.
This will be the first time in the event's 96-year history that it will be held in North Carolina and the first time all three major components of the championships – competition, practice and FanFest – will take place in one venue.
“This is a momentous day for Greensboro, the Triad and the state of North Carolina,” said Hill Carrow, chairman of the 2011 U.S. Figure Skating Championships. “With one year to go and the Countdown Clock ticking down, even greater urgency has been added to every aspect of preparation for this major event. We hope this will really help motivate fans, supporters, sponsors and the community to pitch in even more to make sure we are absolutely ready to host the best possible U.S. Figure Skating Championships.”
With a delegation of 26 in Spokane at the 2010 AT&T U.S. Figure Skating Championships, a number of the leaders of the North Carolina Host Committee are marking the occasion by diligently taking notes on, photos and videos of, and developing ideas from, what is sure to be a highly successful 2010 event.
“Spokane has set the bar very high and has shown us a wonderful example of how a region comparable to ours can stage an incredible national championships event," said Kim Strable, President of the Greensboro Sports Commission. "I have great confidence that Greensboro and the Triad region will make U.S. Figure Skating and the athletes very glad they selected our city to host their premier event.”
